Yes you can choose between a Linux or Mac setup.
Our software development process
How can I grow as a developer at your company (career paths and learning opportunities)?
We are proud of our Career Progression Framework which gives us visibility and immediate feedback on an individuals capabilities and more importantly their potential. This empowers teams and managers to have trasparent conversations about the goals tey need to set to grow as an engineer and the path to growth in your level and ultimately to level up!
This framework is accompanied by a performance management tool which we document and monitor progress through out the year.
Do you prefer always writing your own software for everything or use frameworks if they fit?
We are building something completely new and in some cases never been done before. So there is a lot of creating our "own stuff" yes.
Important thought is that if there is an industry standard that is the best solution to solve our and our customers problem we would not write from scratch.
What are your key values and what are some daily work examples of them?
Full Responsibility - for eg Hiring managers are responsible for the recruitment process. They screen and interview applicants. We don't have recruiters at ANYbotics
One Team - We are in this together and our transparency with OKR's, Projects and salary ranges shows how we are all one one team.
Real Impact - By nature what we are aiming to achieve will have major impact on the energy sector and ultimately the consumers of the world. Our philosophy is do work hard to pull everyone in the company forward. From deploying ANYmal to the small things like picking up a loose bolt in the workshop, we all have the ability to impact each others lives and the success of ANYbotics
Pioneers - ANYmal on the Moon! Now thats a moonshot Idea. And we live this every day. We are not trying to just make a robot, but to make the worlds best. If that mean we have to invent new drives and actuators, then so be it. Challenge accepted!
How diverse are your teams? What is the typical team size and structure?
20+ nationalities
5-8 ppl per team and they are currently structured by product
Do you offer any helpful initiatives for parents with young children?
Lots of flexibility for new parents. We understand it's important to be able to be there for your family and we can adapt if and when needed.
What is your remote work policy?
We have a Hybrid work style. We don't have any strict policy on when one can and can't work from home. This you coordinate with your team and manager.
In general thought we like to be onsite close to our robots. It's in our DNA to work together, bounce ideas and strategies face to face. Serendipity plays a bit part in our success.
Remote work is not WFH. Working from home is no issue, but we currently are not setup to accommodate fully remote workers. Perhaps in the future but for now we are based in Switzerland and near the Zurich region.
If you do Agile - how is your agile process & release cycle? How much coding vs meetings/planning?
All our teams incorporate agile ideas into theyโre way of working to contiously improve the capabilities of ANYmal. We donโt enforce a methodology, some of our teams work scrum-like, others follow Kanban. Recurring meetings are kept to a minimum and follow a clear purpose (e.g. standups, weekly team sync).
We use quarterly OKRs to set tangible goals and align with the rest of the company. Product owners help to break down high-level goals into concrete work packages.
We try to follow the Devops mentality, by sharing responsibilities for testing and operating our solutions. By leveraging our CI/CD system and investing in test automation we aim to keep release campaigns short.
Do you have some in-house tech workshops or hackathons? Is there an educational budget?
As we grow, we will also grow our internal learning s and skills with workshops.
Yes we have learning and development budgets for each employee.
Can I work on my projects or open source for a part of time?
We look at these on a case by case basis
What do I need to do to buy a 50$ educational book on company expense?
Taslk to your manger. If applicable then we would expense it under the educational budget
