How would you explain aXedras to your friend in 3 sentences?
aXedras is a fast growing and dynamic start-up company with a highly motivated, cross-functional team. It is our vision to connect and digitalize the precious metal industry.
We combine bullion market expertise and cutting-edge information technology to create significant benefits for the stakeholders of the precious metals industry.
Technologies that we use
Can I choose the hardware? What is your coding setup (IDE, OS, Build server, Cloud provider)?
Engineers are free to choose from a selection of notebooks. In some cases, also bring-your-own-device is possible. Most of our engineers work with Mac. Also “Windows hardware” with some Linux distribution (Ubuntu) is possible. Windows operating system is not recommended for engineers at aXedras, as the dev environments do not support Windows.
Most backend and DLT engineers use IntelliJ IDE. But we have also frontend and DevOps engineers that prefer Visual Studio Code. In general, engineers are free to choose their tooling. We communicate with Jira/Confluence and the Office 365 suite.
We develop on GitLab, using Kotlin, Gradle, Docker, NodeJS, React, Terraform and Ansible. An instance of the aXedras™ stack is composed of a R3 Corda blockchain node, a set of JVM/Spring-Boot-based microservices to control and connect the node to our frontend, and the React-based user interface

We offer workplace flexibility to young parents. This includes the quota of working hours and remote work possibilities.
What is your remote work policy?
Working remote is always possible.
If you do Agile - how is your agile process & release cycle? How much coding vs meetings/planning?
We employed and adjusted Scrum process with bi-weekly development cycles. Although meetings are needed and not per-se bad, we try to have as few and as focused meetings as possible. As a concrete example, we have stand-ups twice a week, not daily.
Do you have some in-house tech workshops or hackathons? Is there an educational budget?
We operate in a highly innovative area, so that new knowledge is naturally acquired. New innovation is very often followed by educational meetings to share knowledge with the entire team. However, there is no freely available budget for further training.
Can I work on my projects or open source for a part of time?
Everyone is free to work on their own projects in their free time, as long as they do not interfere with or compete with work at aXedras. However, the working hours are fully geared towards the common goals.
What do I need to do to buy a 50$ educational book on company expense?
We love simplicity – just put it on your expense report.
We start with a short one-to-one meet & greet remote call or meeting. After that, there will be one interview with the senior engineer focusing on the technical job aspects and a second one with our CPO/CEO that is more business focused. That’s it.
