Can I choose the hardware? What is your coding setup (IDE, OS, Build server, Cloud provider)?

We offer a panel of different hardware and OS the engineer can choose from. All our infrastructure is Cloud-based and engineers will have the opportunity to develop their skills with Cloud-infrastructure related technologies. If needed, engineers will receive IDE-/libraries-licenses (IntelliJ for exemple).

How can I grow as a developer at your company (career paths and learning opportunities)?

There are several levels of seniority. Depending on your level, you can easily take on a Scrum Master, Team Lead or Architect Owner role. If you want to go further, you can also become a consultant in the field of architecture. You can also develop your career as a Product Owner or Project Manager.

Do you prefer always writing your own software for everything or use frameworks if they fit?

We use a maximum of existing software or frameworks and integrate them.

What are your key values and what are some daily work examples of them?

At Softcom you will never be bored. You will work in an autonomous team that will be responsible for delivering the projects as a whole. You'll be working on technical solutions and estimates to make offers. You will develop the solutions you have designed. You will be required to work on several projects at the same time. You will also be responsible for the deployment of the solution and its maintenance.

How diverse are your teams? What is the typical team size and structure?

Our engineers come from technical schools all over Switzerland and sometimes from other European countries, but all of them live now close to one of our offices (Fribourg- Bern – Lausanne). The main languages are French and German, English is certainly a plus. We have agile team structures, max 5-6 developers and a PO. Our industry orientation is organized in Tribes (eGovernment, Mobility and Energy). Each team takes care of 2-3 projects in parallel.

Do you offer any helpful initiatives for parents with young children?

All our jobs are also possible 80%, we have many young parents in the company. We organize family events like summer party and St. Nicolas to include all family members in the company’s life.

What is your remote work policy?

Home office is always possible, however in general, one fix day per week is common. During the pandemic we realized the value of physical presence. So physical interactions, not only improve innovation, but simplify every ones life. Often you can solve a problem taking a coffee with your coleage instead of exchanging numerous emails.

If you do Agile - how is your agile process & release cycle? How much coding vs meetings/planning?

We have been using agile methods for a long time. We use the Disciplined Agile Delivery framework. We run 2-week iterations that include all the ceremonies such as Daily, Refinement, Sprint Retrospective, Sprint Review, Sprint Planning, ... During the 2 weeks of the Sprint we spend about 2 half days in meetings.

Do you have some in-house tech workshops or hackathons? Is there an educational budget?

Employees have 2 days to participate in events of their choice. Our employees frequently participate in such events. Sometimes we organize them too.

Can I work on my projects or open source for a part of time?

We strongly encourage innovation! There is a budget for these activities
