How can I grow as a developer at your company (career paths and learning opportunities)?
Developers work on challenging tasks in the cloud environment with end to end responsibility. Dormakaba actively supports the learning paths (on the job learning) and sets up regular meetings with manager to understand the interests of the employee and help him grow professionally. Payment for trainings are provided by the company.
Do you prefer always writing your own software for everything or use frameworks if they fit?
Whenever possible, pre-existing frameworks are utilized to keep the inherited technical debt low.
What are your key values and what are some daily work examples of them?
Make it only as complex as necessary. Continuous improvement is very important in our teams. We try to constantly improve and learn from real world use cases. Is a feature heavily used? Does it have an impact on the current implemention? What are the business goals for the future? Do they have an impact on the system? Constant exchange with stakeholders is an important part of our daily work.
How diverse are your teams? What is the typical team size and structure?
Project Manager, Product Owner, Lead Engineer (with Line Manager role), Developers, Architect and Testers. Team sizes vary.
Do you offer any helpful initiatives for parents with young children?
We offer a flexible remote policy, in which parents can choose when to work on-site or at home.
What is your remote work policy?
We incorporate a flexible work policy. Currently, most developers work 80% home office.
If you do Agile - how is your agile process & release cycle? How much coding vs meetings/planning?
We have a daily stand-up of 15 minutes and we work on a 2 weeks sprint interval. If necessary, ad-hoc meeting to collaborate or exchange can be arranged. Release cycles are depending on the project and developed in a continous fashion.
Do you have some in-house tech workshops or hackathons? Is there an educational budget?
We do hold an educational budget and furthermore, we have organized our second global hackathon this year.
Can I work on my projects or open source for a part of time?
No, our developers work full time.
