Can I choose the hardware? What is your coding setup (IDE, OS, Build server, Cloud provider)?
You can pick your own hardware. We have Linux and Windows-User here, but mostly Apple products because of this study.
Whatever floats your boat. Set-up is also not fixed, our best practice right now is IDE: jetbrains, OS: Mac, Build Server: Github action, Cloud: GCP.

How can I grow as a developer at your company (career paths and learning opportunities)?
You are not an employee, you become a member like everyone else at the company. So besides profiting from skilled developers and architects in our pairing sessions, you’ll get a yearly personal development budget for conferences, education, training or books.
With an always possible 80% stint you’ll have a day off each week to follow your personal projects.
And as member your vote on building and changing this company counts as much as everyone else’s.

Do you prefer always writing your own software for everything or use frameworks if they fit?
This will be evaluated individually by yourself. We have people who love to get lost in tooling, and others who are makers and love to write their own stuff.

What are your key values and what are some daily work examples of them?
Founded as a corporate concept for a digital, diverse, emancipated and liberated future, AX conforms to the personal lifestyle of our co-worker and their environment. We aim to deliver meaningful and ethical solutions to be behind the product with our name and philosophy.
How diverse are your teams? What is the typical team size and structure?
The truth is, we’re not diverse yet. We are just these eight friends as of now and would love to have better inputs. For ideation and user-centric methods we collaborate with diverse co-creators to empathize with the variety of people and mindsets out there. We’re open for everyone.
Do you offer any helpful initiatives for parents with young children?
Yes, maternal and fraternal leave, flexible part-time possibilities, remote work and some pretty cool LEGOs when you bring your kid to work.
Anyways you wouldn’t be the first parent at AX and your predecessors shaped AX to your benefit.
What is your remote work policy?
We are not a remote work company and love to create things together. As of now, we are at least two days at the office per week. Homeoffice is possible, but tell it a day in advance. But no rule without exception: Your partner or your child is sick and they need you close? That’s something for spontaneous remote work.
If you do Agile - how is your agile process & release cycle? How much coding vs meetings/planning?
Two week sprints in a scrum-ish agile framework supported by Jira and a project manager. CI/CD pipelines and coding to meeting ratio for developers is actually 5:1 (not planned, this ratio is tracked).
Do you have some in-house tech workshops or hackathons? Is there an educational budget?
AX loves hackathons but except a techno-beer now and then, we have only pairings in-house. There is a personal- and a team-education budget to visit conferences, further education, books and more.
Can I work on my projects or open source for a part of time?
At AX it is normal to work in an 80% (34h) stint without overtime. So you have a day off for your own projects. But you can also choose the full-time 42h work-week.

💼 How does the interview process at AX look like?
We want to get to know you personally anyway - so you don't need eight hours to lay out your application to make us aware of you.
Nevertheless, we are curious: Tell us why you would be a good fit for AX and why the job is tailored for you. A nice email with this information, your CV and your GitHub are sufficient. In any case, you will receive an answer from us.
If your CV matches us, you will be invited to a virtual meeting to get to know each other. After this comes a take-home exercise to show your skills.
Then you will be invited to a trial day, but don't worry, we don't want to test how you work under pressure - we want to know how you will collaborate with your future team.
